Done a lot in the last couple of days for the music organization. Got rid a bunch of orphan files, put album art on just about everything, removed a bunch of duplicates. I've got a handful of CDs I need to scan for the art still, but otherwise, I feel much better about the state of my musical library. I discovered that at some point, the album art that iTunes had downloaded from its store for files that were not actually iTunes store purchases had lost their art, which was very cranky-making, but those have mostly been fixed now. The majority of the artless albums had reasonably high resolution images available on Amazon, and between those and the dozen-ish CDs I have to scan, I only had to settle on lower-resolution images for about 6 albums that I can no longer find the physical discs for. Now it's time for band practice. The music never stops, no? Tags: music, radio

Yes, indeed. An actual post. With actual content. Some general updates on how things are going: The Band: We're gearing up for our Next Big Show, which is about a week away. We have a bucketful of awesomeness in store for our audience. At our last big show, we introduced a new element to our performance: videos that are in sync with our songs. Well, at our next big show, we'll have even more video, and some of the ones we had ready last time are new & improved. It helps that this time we had a few months to prepare them, rather than a few weeks, and Jeffry's got some better video editing software. (As an aside, hooray for me not needing to do the video work. His is way better than I could have done.) There are other awesome things in store, that we haven't introduced yet, so I spoil no surprises. If you haven't got your ticket yet, head over here and pick one up, or if you see one of us regularly, money can be exchanged for goods and services. Other music stuff: I continue to sort my collection, and acquire new music. I've also been scanning a few of the CD covers for stuff I have on disc that doesn't have album art in iTunes yet. I'm enjoying the DJ gig a whole hell of a lot, and am wishing that I had more free time for more regular shows, but such is life. I do still need my downtime, and radio doesn't count. I may be home for it, often by myself, but it's definitely not downtime. Doing some covering tonight, actually, at 8pm local (11pm eastern), if anyone is interested in tuning in. For those who missed it before, my schedule is here, updated whenever I change something on it, and connection info is here.Health: I fell sick on the trip back from Disneyland, and it took me roughly a week and a half to recover from it. I still occasionally have really nasty insomnia, which wipes me out far worse than it used to. I'm working on getting more consistent amounts of sleep overall, but it's a difficult battle. I've also decided to cut back on my soda intake (not caffeine, mind, just soda), especially in the evenings. I've switched a lot of my caffeine needs to iced tea, and most of my non-caffeine beverage needs to vitamin water. I'm not planning on cutting it out entirely, but the trip to the store last night was the first time I can remember making a trip that big that didn't involve at least four 12-packs of soda. In fact, there was no soda involved at all. Entertainment: Trying to read more (seems like I'm always trying to read more, and not always succeeding), but have gotten re-hooked on LEGO Star Wars II: Electric Boogaloo The Original Trilogy. I got a PS2 copy finally (just had the PSP version before), and have been playing it some with metaphorge, which has been a whole lot more fun than single-player, though our different approaches to the game can sometimes be problematic. ;) I'm also thinking that I may cut my GameFly subscription down to the one-game-at-a-time plan, because I get through them so slowly now that the more expensive plan doesn't make much sense. Also, I've almost run out of games for my queue. I'm wondering if there's a way to put it on hold for a while, since really I'm not interested in all that many games, and by now I've gone through most of the ones I've wanted to try out. I think that more or less catches me up with what I've been doing lately. Tags: games, health, metaphorge, music, radio, tkt listening to: Plastic Bertrand: Ca Plane Pour Moi

I currently have a little over 3500 songs in my iTunes Library that I'm trying to figure out what to do with. I've created a rather convoluted smart playlist to find them; search parameters include "listened to less than twice" and a bunch of requirements to determine that it's actually music, etc. I have made a fair amount of progress on this project; when I started there were something like 4200 songs on the list, but it's slow going, especially since starting this, I seem to have acquired more music than I had in the past three years combined. It doesn't help that metaphorge will come over and say, "Oh, I have more music for you..." (which of course, is actually totally awesome, but slows down the sorting project). ;) It's further complicated by the fact that I do have multiple copies of several songs, generally because they're on multiple albums that I have, and so I'll have one in a playlist but never listened to the others, but I'm finding these as they come up and disqualifying those matches from continuing to appear in the list. I'm also finding a lot of covers I didn't know I had, a lot of great music, and a lot of crap that I'm really better off deleting. This is going to take a really long time to finish this project, but it'll totally be worth it when it's done. And in the meantime, I do have some fresh music for my iPod's driving playlist. And I'm not listening to the same stuff over and over again at home. Tags: music, radio frame of mind: accomplished listening to: Tenacious D: Rock Your Socks

Well, this week was mostly spent dealing with some fall-out from the funk I was in, actually. But otherwise, most of my time at home has been spent sorting through my music collection... you know, the stuff that I don't listen to ever and/or have never really got around to listening to. I've got a lot of good goddamn music that I didn't realize I had, and some utter crap that I likewise didn't realize I had. The former is going into my usual playlists; the latter is getting either ignored or deleted, depending primarily on whether or not it's part of an album that I otherwise want to keep. I'm also occasionally catching a cover that I'd missed when I previously scoured the collection for those; mostly ones that were either tagged oddly or I don't have the original for so didn't show up in "Show Duplicates." I already have a playlist that's "everything that's actually music" (which took a more convoluted set of parameters than one might think), and based on that, made a playlist of music that I've listened to once or never, and have never skipped (the reasoning behind this is I figure if I've skipped it in the past, I probably didn't like it). Additionally, I made sure to specify that it wasn't in any of the playlists I regularly listened to. Not that I would expect anything in those to fit the "listened to once or never" requirement, but just in case, especially since I don't think it counts stuff that I've played on my iPod, and one of those playlists is specifically for iPod use. I would guess that I've gone through roughly 500 songs since I started doing this; of course the total number of tracks in that list hasn't gone down that much, since in the meantime I've acquired almost that much more music. I decided that with the new stuff I should just let it come up when it comes up, since it seems like I can more objectively decide whether or not I like a song when it's not surrounded by a bunch of similar things. I've actually really enjoyed subjecting my radio listeners to this; while I can go through it more quickly on my own (since I'm far more inclined to just skip something then), having the radio folk suggest tracks from my list of stuff that I need to sort brings the good stuff to the top more quickly. Anyway. That's what I've been doing with most of my free time lately. And when I finish this soda, I'm going to a party. Tags: music, radio listening to: Stephen Lynch: Country Love Song

Bedtime is soon, but I'm finishing my drink first. In the meantime, you get Things I Hadn't Got Around to Posting Yet.
A couple of weeks ago, when metaphorge was over, he got up for a snack around 4am. I was awake enough to mention the presence of some cereal bars in the pantry that he was welcome to snack on. Two hours later, I was startled awake by the sound of the cat making a mad dash for the other room accompanied by an awful lot of rustling. I discovered that the pantry door hadn't been closed properly (this mistake has not been repeated since then), the cat had gotten into the stash of plastic grocery bags, and had become tangled in one. As far as I can figure, it was her frustration in trying to get herself untangled from it that prompted the mad dash around the apartment. And... I do mean mad. When I got to her and tried to help her out of the mess, she was all hissing and swiping and not letting me get anywhere near her. Fortunately, she'd already got herself untangled enough that all she needed was to jump to get away from me to leave the bag behind. While I was in the process of throwing the bag's remains away and closing up the pantry, she peed on my shoe. I noticed the side of her head looked wet, so possibly injured, but I couldn't get close enough to look at it. Two more hours later, when I was actually up and about to go to work, she was back to being affectionate, but still swatted at me when I tried to get a better look at her head. Fortunately, no permanent damage seems to have been done, and by the time I got home from work, she was just fine.
I've actually been remembering some of my dreams lately. They've been pretty vivid, and I attribute my increased memory of them to waking up while still dreaming. Oddly enough, most of the ones I've remembered lately have featured people I know from KoL. There are more interesting things that I could mention about what I remember, but I'll save that for another post, and quite probably lock it down a bit. Last.fm radio is pretty cool, as long as I listen to "Neighbors" and not "Recommendations." I hadn't ever got around to listening to it until this past weekend.
I've been having a lot of trouble with fatigue & insomnia over the past few months. It finally occurred to me sometime late Sunday, when dealing with some digestion issues after a rather late dinner, that the problem could be with my eating habits... not what I've been eating as much as when. Since I'd been going out to lunch with a coworker nearly every day for almost a year now, and for the past several months that hadn't been until 2pm or later, which in turn caused some rather late dinner times, this all added up to sugar crashing early in the day, and never quite managing to recover from it. I let him know Monday that I was going to have to stop eating lunch so damn late, and today I felt much better pretty much the entire day just by taking lunch an hour and a half earlier. You'd think I would have figured that out sooner, given memories of how much I hated late lunches when I was still on the phones, but you'd be wrong. I also should really get blood sugar levels tested to see how those are. Another thing that one might think I would be more aware of, given the number of diabetics and hypoglycemics I know.
Still mildly sick, but coping okay. The *Quil quit working on me right around the time I ran out of the Day variety, but the lozenges still seem to be doing a reasonable job of getting me through things, and I've even replenished my supply now. I can breathe through at least one nostril 90% of the time, and while there's still a fair amount of snot and phlegm, I don't feel quite so helpless to stop it as I did when I was really sick. I know you really needed to know that, but mostly I just wanted to type the word "phlegm." Fishing For Terrorists is a fucking hilarious game. It's not the gameplay itself nearly as much as the premise, but in this case, a little premise goes a long way. Also, helps that the rules are short and it's way easy to pick up.
You'd think my boss had never seen striped knee socks before, with the way he was commenting on them when he was in town the past couple of days. I've only been wearing them frequently for the past 2 years. (To be fair, he's not in town that often, and it's entirely possible that it had either been warm enough for flip-flops or cold enough for jeans every time he'd visited in the meantime, but really? The capris and knee socks are pretty standard for me 8 months out of the year.) At one point this afternoon, I was sitting at my desk, getting work done, and happened to look over to see him with a camera pointed at me. He wanted a picture of my socks. Am I some sort of novelty or something? That wasn't the high point of my day, but it was pretty damn amusing anyway.
